Introduction
Welcome to 3D Design this is a report to show what uses 3D in real life holds to most industries.made by dex berrow it will also show you the basics of 3D
Evaluation
3D modelling is used to create and show images within a 3D environment and it is used in the games industry for 3D games showing a better of the characters, environment/terrain, weapons (if any), story and a view of the player to see a better depth of the view of the game rather than a 2D side view. This is very helpful in many games since 2D games usually have issues when going around a corner before its too late. with 3D in the games industry the games have become more detailed and more entertaining to play while as when they were 2D they were not as widely spread and usually consisted as if it looked like it was drawn on paper and not detailed well.

this shows a 2D game and it shows low detail within the game

this shows a 3D game and the detail is much better than the 2d look and makes it more entertaining.
Architecture
The uses of 3d in industries outside game industry can include architecture for showing the design of houses/ buildings and also a clearer imagine of the caves models inside the houses/ caves and shows how the architectures can make most of the places to build the houses. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Architecture
Fallingwater by Frank Lloyd Wright.
this is a example of a architecture who made a house on a river and made it stable so that it would be good living conditions for a certain need in the hotel industry. 3D modelling has also been a great use to show a creative side to the architectures to make some of the most famous recently built landmarks today. It has shown that if a building is built correctly it could have a actual garden on top of it and be safe for the residents below to remain there. There are ways to show the builders how you would like a building made before it is made and the details of the outside of the house using 3D. http://www.icreate3d.com/3d-architectural-illustration.html
As your can see it is very detailed and it shows a more appealing view compared to a paper model and shows more interesting feel to the customer/ buyer of the house/hotel/building that they are willing to invest or buy into rather than something made of paper or cardboard this shows a more graphic show and a more what will i want it to look like in reality for the architecture to show a clearer detail like the inside of the house also. As shown above with the two pictures above on how graphical and how realistic the final outcome of the house will be.
Medicine
3D Modelling is also used in the medicine industry to show the molecules of a certain medicine or to show nthe body of someone to help make a better understanding of the human body and where everything is. It also helps to show how a workstation of a certain place ina hospital without been there which is very helpful for the new doctors and nurses so that they dont mess up the actual operationa nd they find it much easier to relax as they can see what they will see before operating. When 3D is shown in medicine is can be shown of as a display of the room if it will be made or where the operation is and to show where the operation will be held. http://www.scientificanimations.com/srvc-3d-modelling.html
The above pictures show 3D been used in the medicine industry as showing a operation room and a injury on a foot which helps demonstrate to a doctor/nurse, surgeon or the patient the visual prospect of what they will be doing other than just explaining which can be very hard for some people to explain por people to understand so it is extremely helpful for some to see how the operation will work or help the doctor understand what to do and what will happen if it goes bad so best to demonstrate a clearer view to the doctors/operators.
Advertising
Another view that 3D Modelling is used outside game industry is in advertising as it can be shown in games when advertised for market purposes and to appeal to the general public. It helps give a nicer view to the general public for the customers view and will want them to buy the product thats been sold if it is in a 3D advertisement than a 2D advertisement so they make the adverts as appealing as possible but with the new renovations to sky where you can stop the tv and fast forward it the advertisements can be very low on benefits but it still appeals to some viewers. It helps show the viewer what the product does in more detail so it can give the viewer a better detail of the products use , cost and locations. http://www.wirecase.com/pictures/1617-1148594630_0_2.jpg
this image is made by 3D Modelling but it is used to advertise a camera and how it looks.
Documentaries
3D Modelling is also used in documentaries as some give a display of the culture they are showing the items or a model of the item they are explaining and what the item does. it helps the visual learners who like documentaries understand more about the show there watching. it is used in documentaries to show the people if the type of people have been extincted in a clearer human like view.http://www.thesharpproject.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/battlefield.jpg
Films
3D Modelling is also used in the film industry for new interesting films or cartoon films/ animations for children's programs/films.http://hesaidshesaidmoviereviews.typepad.com/hesaid_shesaid/2009/03/the-best-and-worst-3d-movies.html
as it shows they have used 3D Animations in films and the voice actors for the film. the animations and models are all 3D modelled.
Simulators
3D Modelling is also used in the simulators to help get a better feel for a real life event and in virtual reality such as space simulators and plane smlators but it can also be used in simulators for vehicles such as diggers and other work vehicles like cranes. http://img.tomshardware.com/us/2007/04/12/wall_sized_3d_displays/3droom_lockon.jpg

Engineering
3D Modelling is also used in formaula one and in engineering as a display model to make sure the parts all fit together in the model making sure they are compatible before the actual model is made and no money is wasted.

Geometric Theory
Cartasion Co-ordinates
Cartasion co-ordinates are the basics of a 3d model and its point at where it is made. it uses the x axis and y axis for the face of a 3 sided shape with the z axis been the height of the 3d shape.
http://docs.autodesk.com/ACDMAC/2011/ENU/images/PTDCPM/Ironman-AUG/3d3d004v.png
The x axis is show in the picture above as a horizontal plane and so is the y axis meaning the length and width of the object with the z axis been the height this shows that the Cartasion coordinates are interfaces between the axis and they develop the exact point on a axis using the 3 axis. with the diagram above it show s that the x and y axis combine the point together and meet and then the z axis simply moves the object as high as possible which in this case means that the point (3,2) has been lifted 5 points up on the z axis making it possible to draw a shape in 3D on a 2d screen or paper.
Vertese
The Vertese is exactly one point within a 3 dimensional environment it is a simple point at where your model will be produce from or is a point on a part of your 3d model the graph above showing the Cartasion coordinates also shows a Vertese at the point (3,2,5) showing the exact point at where the Vertese is placed.
Edge
The edge is when two Vertese are combined together using a line or a curve of some point. it is when a side of a model is born as show in the picture blow showing allot of edges.http://www.3dvalley.com/tutorialsdata/modeling_basketball_clip_image005.gif
Triangle and Polygon
a triangle is when 3 vertices are combined together in a model they are shown within a model with the polygons which are four sided or more as shown in this picture. http://www.3duniverse.co.za/forum/uploads/20090709_083343_3DTipsRenderArt.jpg
the original polygon shows a 4 sided shape with the middle showing a basic triangulated polygon showing two triangles making the polygon itself and the right picture showing a triangulated polygon but edited so that the sides are all smooth making it 3 sides instead of 4 showing that most of edges that are made are always made into triangles or polygons. This is crucial in the 3d modelling as it shows the main basis as why a model is created and how the edges within the model produce the image using polygons and triangles with the Vertese been at the correct position.
Lathe
The geometric theory of 3D is the way to use 3D moddeling so that the model doesnt look like a bunch of spheres and cubes and to lathe(rotate a curve/object 360 degrees froma beizer corner) a item such as a pawn and to make it easier than to model it each peice and to stick it together. http://sitepointstatic.com/graphics/lathe.gif
It uses verticies for a way to curve around a object to make a object stick out and also lines to make a object start been made. polygons is what makes a shape or object in the modeeling and if the model has too many segments in the product the object / creation will lag ina actual game/ movie which is why they are usually as low as possible to prevent this in movies and video games.
Rotation
http://www.creativepro.com/files/story_images/062601_4.jpg
this shows how to rotate a object in 3d modelling and the colours , zoom in and out and intensity of the object.
Mesh
With 3D they use mesh construction which is used to make models from pictures or objects usin primitives such as line and curves and to lathe thm which helps make a new object. it is also used to combine two objects together to make a new object. extrusion means making the scale of the object bigger so that way you could have a small object and large object of same look for times where the character would look small and other times where s/he would look big in the game.http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fb/Dolphin_triangle_mesh.png
this shows a object been extruded so it helps make a object bigger with ease. with every model they have sides and 2 sides ina model make a edge.http://www.caddigest.com/subjects/autocad/tutorials/select/080603_parsai_edgesurf.htm
Texture and shading
In displaying 3D models there are many functions that 3d modelling allows the different lightings on or in a model the texture and the shading also as not every material is made in the same texture or material and the shading is from the lights reflection on a surface as a tables reflection has a different shade when reflect from light like a table and clothes reflect differently when exposed 2 light. http://www.foundation3d.com/uploads/studio/2009/12/-01-6711052.jpg
the picture above shows a basic model when its subjected to light as it is shown the reflection in the model from the clothes on him and from the skin with a angle of light showing the shade of the object from the light. showing a clearer real life view of the model. It also shows very ncie detail of the charatcer/ object showing what types of material reflect in different ways as a snooker ball will reflect light differently to water. It also shows different types of rendering like cinematics and also the style the model is shown in the situation. It helps to understand more about the lighting on a model when they are affected to different light. this is also affected with the textures of the model.

Lighting
Omni lighting
here is an example of omni lighting which is used in order to light a room up within 3D modelling rather than just the normal sunlightoutside of the building it shows that a building can have lighting incase the game is showing a indoors building at night. http://www.9jcg.com/tutorials/montree_t/lighting_shadow_03.jpg
as the picture shows it gives a better deatil of the inside of a building which wouldn't b possiblew to show nwithout the lighting.
Spot lighting
spot lighting is when a light is shone on a object on a specific angle or position like a lamp for example. it is used to help find and create shadows on the object in a view. it also helps position the camera in a more appealing way. http://www.pawas.com/graphics/tut-images-thumb/uwfig3.jpg

this shows the object been affected by the spot lighting on the display and how it is shown on the views.
this shows the object been affected by the spot lighting on the display and how it is shown on the views.
Software of 3D
The softwares for 3D is is 3D studio Max, Maya and Lightwave and many more. although 3D Studio Max and Maya are now owned by the same company but there are 3D modellers who are used to one of the, than the other so they kept both of the softwares so that way neither of the 3D developers who use the softwares are having to learn the othersoftware which could take alot of time and time is crucial in games and the 3D Developers would like to be as effiecient as possible with the work they do. so time is not something they want to use learning a new software otherwise it would cost allot of money and no progress to the game which can cause delays to the release of the game.

Constraints
In 3D Development it is best to remember constraints such as polygon counts because the more detailed a object/person is the more slower the game would be and the movie so usually the movies have the higher polygon counts and the gameplay has the smaller polygon count as no game is fun with lag in it so they try to make the gameplay detailed but not too detailed otherwise the game starts to lag and be rly slow and unresponsive which can make the game become really unbalanced and unfair for either the allies or the enemies. the file sizes are important in 3D Modelling also as the films and ganmes do not want to be too big as too big files make the game and movies react slowly and lag. Rendering times are made so that way the game and movie play at the right speed as a game is not fun if it is too slow or too fast as the game will be either to slow for the player to be patient for it or too fast so that they cannot react to the game. there are fast games and slow games but if a game is too fast or too slow then the game becomes incredibly handicaped and unbalanced for the player. Also the more bigger size the file is the more difficult it is to save space on a computer which means more difficult to save space with large files.
Game Restrictions
https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhC1An7MZzAZzXz2DBwyMjCHxZgabYqJeXMC2UhQ2JwlWUO0mHLPAgzhLYECmrUgzKhb_OPvSVk9xPOJSAgiYfbtRlOQzKGEo5xYAJdcHuXATYLzt7QaY7U24b3vriwcWquxKA_WkZOUNc/s400/halomodel.jpg
this is a picture of a object with low polygon count so that it is more efficient in a video game. It also gives better graphics for the other parts of the game on the CD.http://www.ecx.cc/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/l_work_1.jpg
this is a picture of a high polygon model which is very detailed and appealing but in a game can make it very slow and inefficient. It reduces the space in the game for the other important aspects of the game or the Movie so it would have to be less detailed in them making it a tough choice to choose which type of detail to have in certain aspects of the games.
Films Industry
With the films industry they want the best detail in the best possible ways the film can handle so therefore they have very big file sizes and very big polygon counts which means it takes allot more time to render their films than it would with a basic 3D model and they will pay millions of pounds or us dollars just to get it in perfect detail as they have plenty of time to get it rendered and are not in a hurry as much as the games industry is so they could spend months rendering the film they make.
